Father of the Revolution

Today marks the 18th anniversary of the death of the founder of Islamic Republic Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini, the self pro-claimed Imam, Representitive of God on Earth, and Supreme Leader of the people!
Not long after the Iranian revolution, Khomeini introduced the Velayat-e Faqih system of government for Iran, setting himself as the uncontested, unelected leader of the country, with full power over the Army. A position that enabled him to rule Iran as a king until his death; a position that is now taken by Khamenei, who has ruled Iran since Khomeini’s death in 1989.
Ahmadinejad who was once part of followers of Imam’s Line (the criminals who took over the US embassy and took hostages after the revolution) and is now the president of the Islamic Republic, seeks to keep Iran the feared fundamentalist state that Khomeini had in mind.
On Sunday he once again called for the quick destruction of Israel, a wish of the “Imam ” that was never fulfilled in his life time, the poor soul!

Up until this day, I am amazed at how this man were able to gather followers and make the revolution happen? How did the Iranian people fall for this guy!? Well, President Carter, writing in his memoir says, that they thought Khomeini as a “Gandhi like” figure …. Can you imagine that!
You know, if it was not for the 1978 communist coup in Afghanistan, I don’t think that Khomeini had a chance. The Western countries were afraid that Iran will be overturned by communists at that time, specially, after losing Afghanistan to Soviets. So they strategized and they thought to lose Iran to a religious figure is better than losing to non-religious figures.
And what a mess we had since !
Well the Iranian revolution happened so quickly that people didn’t know what hit them!
I think as you say, there were a number of things that went hand in hand at the time to make it happen. One of the biggest tragedies in the 20th century.
Two wretched and vile creatures whose actions have caused so much misery and violence in the world.
