Yesterday Mansour Osanlou, the chief of the public transport union “Syndica” and a well known figure in the Iranian workers movement, was censued and sentenced to five years in prison by the 14th branch of the Islamic Revolutionary court for “acting against national security”.
The Allameh Tabatabaei university of Tehran, another Iranian university with a live student activism scene, witnessed a bloody event on Monday where the harasat forces (university security) attacked a room where the elections for the Islamic Student Association of the university was taking place. They broke the windows and assaulted the students who were protecting the ballot boxes, one of which was a female student called Mehdiyeh Golrou, the secretery for the ISA student activist body in Alameh university. The students soon clashed with the forces and shouted “death to those who killed my brother“. Three students Saiid Izadbakhsh, Maziar Samii and Saiid Feizollahzadeh have been arrested by VEVAK, the Ministery of Intelligent, and atleast one activist was banned from the university for two terms. Watch a mobile phone video clip recorded by a student here.
