Abbas Edalat at Trinity College
May 1st, 2007 by City boy
As reported by Potkin and Aryamehr, Professor Abbas Edalat, founder of CASMII which I wrote about a few days ago is giving a lecture titled “Mutual Respect: The Paradigm Shift Required to Resolve - The Iran-US Standoff” tomorrow at Trinity College, in Cambridge.
According to CASMII’s website this man, who is known for supporting the Islamic Republic by giving passive talks on how to deal with them, has previously attended “churches, mosques, and peace rallies” on behalf of CASMII.
Interestingly, he attended one of these church talks in Portland together with Mr. Abbas Maleki who was the deputy Foreign Minister of the former president Rafsanjani, the convicted mass murderer, during his entire 8 year presidency.
Mr Edalat, like the rest of the anti-war gang is also known for his support of the now very much dead “reformist” movement lead by the former president Khatami. In an interview with a fellow CASMII activist Foaad Khosmood, he criticised Bush’s “attack on Iran” by claiming that it was in bad faith and contrast with Khatami’s “Dialogue among civilizations”! this is where the true identity of Islamic Republic supporters come clear to those who oppose the war, but also condemn the lies and deceptions by the propaganda of the Islamic Republic.
As one can tell by the title of this lecture which Abbas is going to give tomorrow, it will be nothing but “lets talk peace, lets have the world and Islamic Republic to kiss and make up” talk.
If you can make it tomorrow please do attend this talk please ask: Why should the world not condemn a government that deprives it’s citizens from the simplest of human rights? Why should anyone who enjoys being free of tyranny support an Islamic fundamentalist government? Why can’t pacifism go hand in hand with promoting democracy and condemning dictators?
If he does not approve of the unacceptable human rights condition and the police state that Islamic Republic has created for it’s people, he should come out and say it. It’s really that simple, Oppose the war, Condemn the dictator.

Voice your objections to the organisers:
Shirin Saeidi, a member of the editorial board at CASMII who organised it through the Cambridge University Persian Society.
Update: Is it just a coincidence that the organiser Shirin Saeidi seems to have written a pro-Islamic Republic article calling the Argentinian case against IR officials a Western Christian conspiracy?!

outstanding post. I think you should post this at Harry’s place, he is based in London and very heavy traffic blog.

30tboy do you have an email through which (those of us who can’t attend) can voice our objection?
Serendip, thanks I sent him an email.
Aryamehr, yes sorry I missed that, added the organiser’s contact details. Thank you for reminding me.
CityBoy i contacted Miguel Medina Abellan earlier and received a response from him saying he is not the one who’s organizing this event??? I’m confused…
Yeah it looks like Miguel is only the promoter on behalf of the societies.
The real traitor who organised it is Shirin Saeidi, a PhD student at Cambridge and a member of CASMII, who organised this through convincing the Cambridge Persian Society.
city boy: Have your read Shirin Saedi disgusting article in Iranian.com? She needs to be investigate.
This is a comment left on Azarmehr’s blog by Parkhash about this guy Edalat:

Who is Abbas Edalat? See below:
Let me tell you what Abbas Edalat has been doing for the last 25 or more years.
As a former anti-shah activist in the confederation of Iranian students he enjoyed a Pahlavi foundation-funded education at Berkeley and when the Shah was toppled he migrated to the UK and studied for his PhD, at Warwick university followed by becoming a researcher at Imperial college. Politically he used to be a follower of Fedayeen-e khalgh, of course the champaign Marxist type. All these years he has worked in favour of the islamic regime’s interests so much so that now in partnership with Kamran Elahian (a Bahai entrepreneur in the US) he is providing IT technologies to Iran. He is extremely jealous of all successful Iranians particularly those in universities. As luck had it, and despite being simply a researcher and not a lecturer, thanks to the British universities love affair with academics of ethnic minorities, he got a “research professorship” to balance the equal opportunities quota! To give you an idea about his connections, Edalat’s partner is Massoumeh Torfeh, an editor of the BBC’s Farsi program. Edalat frequently travels to Iran and receives VIP treatment by his hosts in both universities and the government.

Shirin Saedi is a staunch supporter of the regime. She almost sounds like an official spokesperson for the regime.
Serendip, wow that comment couldn’t summarise the story of this guy and the alike any better.
And you are right, if these supporters of IR are not being paid by the regime directly, then they are really missing out!
